Night Idea - Paths
RVA’s Night Idea has just released its sophomore effort, Paths, again on The Subterranea Collective label. They went to Bryan Walthall at Sound of Music Studios for the engineering, and that was clearly a good decision. The clarity and crispness of the recording adds a wonderful depth, and you can hear any slight motion of each moment the sticks hit the drums with absolute precision.
The songs are lengthy and thorough, and they want to make sure to not leave any musical ground uncovered. The four-piece has worked on this album for two years (and are BFFs), so that only further explains the honed sound. Even when the soundscape turns fuzzy, like in “Born in Debt,” the sound is so lush and burgeoning that the general haze chills you out.
Night Idea will play in NoVA on 6/21.
Check out the band’s new shirts (and album art) by Victoria Borges and modeled by Ethan Johnstone.
My bassist and drummer (Reid LaPierre and Ethan Johnstone) are also in Night Idea, and they just released a fantastic new album. Go listen to it.
